New Baggage Rules to the UK

Effective 01 August 2006 in line with the United Kingdom Department of Transport IATA guidelines, and the implementation of these guidelines at Heathrow, hand baggage must have a maximum length of 56cm (22in), width of 45cm (18in) and depth of 25cm (10in) and a weight of 8kg. These dimensions include wheels, handles, side pockets, etc. If your hand baggage exceeds the IATA standard size, you will be asked to return to check-in and check the bag into the hold.

 

Tips for Travel From/Within The United States
Carry-On Allowance


Passengers traveling within the United States* may bring through the security checkpoint travel-size toiletries (3-ounce container or smaller) that fit in one, quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag (see an example at right). The bag must be completely closed/sealed and must be submitted for inspection separately from other carry-on baggage.

Examples of allowed toiletries include the following:

  • Lotion

  • Mouthwash

  • Perfume

  • Shampoo

  • Toothpaste

  • Eye care products

Additionally, travelers may bring onboard the aircraft duty free purchases, beverages and other items purchased in the secure area of the terminal.
